Proximity is the connection between spaces, people, and the objects that shape our lives. It’s about the thread that weaves together art, community, design and nature – the subtle spaces between that influence how we live, work, and interact. We design with intention, balancing form and function to create spaces that feel deeply personal and uniquely yours. Every detail is considered, every element contributes to a larger story, and every space is a reflection of the people who inhabit it.

We Are Proximity

Proximity is the intersection of spaces, people, and objects, where design connects art, community, and nature, Proximity blends form and function to create personal, meaningful environments that reflect the lives and stories of those who inhabit them.

Our Ethos

Relationships to Spaces

A home is more than just a place—it’s a reflection of the emotions it evokes. The quiet moments spent in a chair so comfortable you linger a little longer, or the laughter that fills a room on a family gathering. We design spaces that reveal themselves over time, where every visit offers a new detail to discover. Each corner, each texture, each carefully chosen piece contributes to an atmosphere that feels like home—intimate, layered, and full of warmth.

Quiet Luxury

You won’t find bold logos or flashy statements here. Every piece in our spaces has a voice—but none needs to shout to be heard. We believe luxury is found in restraint, in thoughtful sourcing, and in the stories behind the work. That might mean a pair of vintage sconces discovered at a Paris flea market, or an eight-way hand-tied sofa crafted in North Carolina by a maker we’ve come to know by name. We seek out local workrooms, rising artists, and seasoned craftspeople who bring soul to every detail. Quiet doesn’t mean simple. It means intentional.

Heirloom Craftmanship

Custom is where story meets structure. Whether it’s bespoke millwork, one-of-a-kind furniture, or commissioned art, we believe in designing pieces that are made specifically for the people who live with them. These aren’t just beautiful details—they’re future heirlooms, crafted with care and intention to be passed down through generations. Thoughtfully made and built to last, each custom element becomes a natural extension of the home—so integrated, it feels like it was always meant to be there.

Personalized Experiences

At Proximity, every project begins with presence—being fully engaged with our clients and attuned to how they live. We listen carefully to their vision while also anticipating how they’ll move through and utilize their spaces. Our role is to guide, to teach what’s possible, and to craft the unique story of their home—one rooted in closeness, collaboration, and care.

We pride ourselves on responsiveness, clear communication, and the ability to work seamlessly with trades and construction teams. The result? Interiors that are not only deeply personal, but also beautifully executed. As Betsy Soos puts it, “I think that’s our special sauce—making connections with our clients to produce both personal and authentic spaces.”

Curated Through Our Lens

Every project at Proximity is shaped by what inspires us—travel, art, design history, and the relationships we’ve built with a network of creatives, artisans, and trusted dealers. We don’t just source; we curate. That might mean reupholstering a vintage chair in a contemporary textile, or pairing a sculptural new piece with a one-of-a-kind antique. We blend the old and the new to create spaces that feel layered, lived-in, and deeply intentional. It’s a perspective honed over time—and it’s what gives each of our projects a sense of place, soul, and story.

Sustainability

To us, sustainability goes beyond materials—it’s about the people, processes, and ethics behind every piece we bring into a home. We prioritize working with vendors and makers who value the same things we do: fair labor practices, livable wages, and environmentally responsible sourcing. From responsibly harvested woods to ethically produced textiles, we make intentional choices that support both the planet and the people who help bring our designs to life. Because creating lasting beauty means caring for every hand that touches it.
